The sessions will focus on global industry best practices, progressive policy-making, industry trends and innovation. These will be preceded by Masterclass on Sustainable Tourism Product Development – Leisure and Business Tourism/Events on 30 August, led by Professor Novelli of University of Brighton. Attendees including policy-makers, business leaders and entrepreneurs will gain from these through learning, networking and creating new business linkages. Dr. Kobby Mensah, an expert in Tourism Marketing at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) notes that “the ATLF underpins Africa’s role in world tourism, and most significantly signals the continent’s new development paradigm spearheaded by tourism.”

Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at Bournemouth University, also observes that Africa has a fantastic potential for growth and development given the uniqueness of its unexplored tourism assets. According to Professor Buhalis “this opportunity should be explored to attract investments to improve infrastructure, transportation networks and connectivity towards better quality of life for local communities.” The two-day program has themes reflecting progressive policy-making, enhanced intra-Africa travel, diversification of economies through tourism, innovation, quality standards and tourism infrastructure development and Private-Public Partnerships. “I believe the Forum is an excellent platform for policy makers, industry leaders and knowledge creators to kick start the process in a bottom up approach by bringing together synergies between different players, celebrating unity and building bridges. I am excited to be contributing,” adds Buhalis.
