Soon to start is the Timely Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference.

The conference will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on February 16 and 17, under the design,” Navigating the Future of Tourism Resilience”. This significant event coincides with the first celebration of the United Nations ‘ declaration of February 17 as Global Tourism Resilience Day annually, a breakthrough achieved through Jamaica’s successful lobbying efforts led by Minister Bartlett.
Jamaica Tourism Minister Hon. Edmund Bartlett reiterated the reliability of the event.
He stated:” We would have seen first- side the considerably- reaching effect of rising sea levels only a few days ago along Jamaica’s north coast as well as in other islands. Interestingly, the event being in Montego Bay, which was also affected, provides a critical opportunity to address concerns related to climate change and endurance building in commerce. Now more than ever, we may unite to find lasting options that protect our economy and sites”.
The conference, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism, UN Tourism ( formerly the United Nations World Tourism Organization, UNWTO ), and the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre ( GTRCMC), promises two days of insightful discussions, engaging panels, and distinguished speakers.
The event kicks off with an Opening Service featuring Keynote Speaker UN Tourism Secretary- General H. E. Zurab Pololikashvili. Day one may notice several interesting board discussions starting with a program on” Building Tourism ‘ Digital ‘ Resilience”. The screen will discover the changing scenery of the tourism sector in the modern age. Members may involve Senator the Hon. Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with role for Skills and Digital Transformation, Natalia Bayona, UN Tourism Executive Director, Mr. Cordel Green, Executive Director, Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, Dr. Luz Longsworth, Senior Corporate Director, Sandals Corporate University, Mr. Dushyant Savadia, Founder and CEO, Amber Group, Mr. Devon Bryan, Chief Information Officer, Carnival Corporation as well as Mr. Eric Sutfin, Founder &amp, CMSO – ZEAL.

This will be followed by a rousing talk on” Building Tourism ‘ System’ Resilience”. This program will focus on enhancing endurance in different tourism sectors. Speakers may include Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, Dr. Carey Wallace, Executive Director, Tourism Enhancement Fund ( TEF), Wade Mars, Executive Director, Tourism Product Development Company Limited ( TPDCo ), Professor Andrew Spencer, President, Caribbean Maritime University ( CMU), Ms. Alicia Montalvo, Manager of Climate Action and Positive Biodiversity, CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean and Mr. John Byles, Managing Partner at Chukka Caribbean Adventures.
Moreover, there will be an intelligent treatment on” Women in Tourism Resilience”. This thought- inciting panel does highlight the essential role of women in creating tourism resilience. Speakers will include Drs. Shakira Maxwell, Senior Research Fellow, Gender, Policy, and Tourism Resilience Strategies, GTRCMC, Dr. Lisa Indar, Director, Surveillance Disease Prevention and Control Division at the Caribbean Public Health Agency, Mrs. Sheila Johnson, Co-founder of BET, Vice-Chair of the World Travel &amp, Tourism Council ( WTTC ), and Chair of its Sustainability Committee.
The fourth and final section dialogue will concentrate on” Funding Tourism Resilience” and explore global approaches to funding the development of endurance. Minister Bartlett and his fellow Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, Mrs. Nicola Madden-Greig, President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, Oscar Avalle, Country Representative, El Salvador and Northern Caribbean, CAF, Mr. Ibrahim Ayoub, Director, International Tourism and Investment Conference, Ms. Nataliya Mylenko, Lead Economist for the Caracas, World Bank, and Hon. Kenneth Bryan, Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization ( CTO ) and Minister of Tourism and Ports for the Cayman Islands.
The official celebration of Global Tourism Resilience Day 2024 will take place on the next and last time, and it will include a Presentation display from Prime Minister, the Most Hon. International listeners from Malaga, Spain, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia may join Andrew Holness.
Following this, there will be a high-level Governmental Round Board with Mr. Pololikashvili, the UN Tourism Secretary-General, and representatives from the City of Malaga, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, Brazil, Barbados, Burkina Faso and Senegal. Bartlett and Bryan, two officials, may even contribute insightful perspectives to the debate.
The first World Tourism Endurance Awards Gala will kick off the conference.
